Bahrain Practise 1 was a dry affair, with Nico Rosberg topping the timesheets on a 1:32:294, ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton, although the two Mercedes drivers showed that the rest of the field still have some way to go, sitting more than a second faster than their nearest rivals.
With the sandy conditions leading to a number of drivers running off the circuit throughout the session, Rosberg set the early pace, sitting just less than a tenth off Lewis Hamilton, however some late runs by the duo led to improvements for both drivers, with Hamilton finishing .505 behind his teammate.
As expected, a Ferrari took up third place on the grid, however it was Raikkonen showing his pace this time around, albeit 1.8 seconds behind the Mercedes. The Red Bull Racing pairing came in 4th & 5th, showing that the Renault (Tag Heuer) power unit is improving, whilst the Mercedes powered Force India of Nico Hulkenberg finishing a strong 6th, less than a tenth behind the Red Bulls.
We could be looking at another explosive weekend for Toro Rosso, with both drivers finishing 7th & 8th, with Carlos Sainz Jr. edging out Max Verstappen by less than a tenth. .2 behind the Toro Rosso pair was another strong run by Romain Grosjean in the Haas, ahead of Felipe Massa and Sebastian Vettel, who decided not to run on the softer tyre.
Stoffel Vandoorne had a steady debut with Mclaren, finishing in 18th, however only .9 of a second behind Jenson Button.
